Maintenance of data center generator radiators is key to ensuring the stable operation of generator sets in high-temperature environments and preventing overheating failures. The maintenance work mainly focuses on external cleaning, internal descaling, regular inspections, and preventive measures, and must follow specific safety and cycle requirements.
1. External Cleaning of Data Center Generator Radiators
The purpose of external cleaning of data center generator radiators is to remove dust, oil stains, and debris from the radiator surface to restore its ventilation and heat dissipation efficiency.
1) During cleaning, hot water with cleaning agents should be used, spraying from the front of the Data center generator radiator towards the fan, avoiding spraying in the opposite direction which could force dirt into the center. For stubborn deposits, the radiator can be removed and immersed in hot alkaline water for about 20 minutes, then washed with hot water.
2) During routine inspections, focus on keeping the Data center generator radiator and ventilation openings clean to ensure proper heat dissipation. Do not use air blowing or high-pressure water spraying during cleaning to prevent dust from entering inside or residual moisture causing short circuits.
2. Internal Descaling and Inspection of Data Center Generator Radiators
Internal descaling must be carried out step by step:
1) Drain the water inside the Data center generator radiator and disassemble and seal the parts connected to the pipes;
2) Pour in 4% acid solution at 45°C, leave for 15 minutes, then drain and inspect;
3) If scale remains, clean again with 8% acid solution;
4) After descaling, neutralize twice with 3% alkaline solution, then rinse more than three times with clean water.
5) After cleaning, the Data center generator radiator must be checked for leaks. Inspection methods include: blockage of the radiator inlet and outlet, introduce compressed air at 0.15-0.3 kgf/cm² from the overflow pipe, then place in a water tank and observe where bubbles appear indicating leaks; or fill with water and slightly shake to observe water seepage. If leaks are found, repair promptly, usually using soldering.
3. Maintenance Cycle and Daily Inspection of Data Center Generator Radiators
The maintenance cycle for radiators is generally once every 200 hours of operation.
1) During daily inspections, check if the Data center generator radiator fins are blocked and ventilation is smooth, and check if the cooling fan is running normally and the belt tension is appropriate.
2) In critical environments such as data centers, daily inspections and weekly deep maintenance are required to ensure the cooling system operates properly.
3) During maintenance, it must be noted that all repairs should be carried out with the Data center generator completely shut down and cooled, to prevent danger from high-temperature coolant and pressure.
4. Maintenance and Optimization of Systems Related to Data Center Generator Radiators
Maintenance of data center generator radiators should be combined with checks of the entire cooling system and other generator set inspections.
1) Routine maintenance should regularly check the coolant level and quality, ensuring the level is below the Data center generator radiator fill neck, and the coolant temperature should be below 50°C before adding.
2) At the same time, check the Data center generator lubrication system oil level and quality, as well as whether electrical connections are loose or overheating. To improve heat dissipation efficiency, optimization measures can be implemented, such as converting an open cooling system to a closed-loop system with a plate heat exchanger, or adding an evaporative cooler to the intake duct to reduce intake temperature.
3) Additionally, monitor the computer room environment to ensure suitable temperature and humidity, adequate ventilation, and prevent reduced heat dissipation due to high ambient temperature.
Maintenance operations for data center generator radiators must follow safety regulations. After re-installing the radiator, refill it with water and add rust inhibitor. Check the insulation cover of the exhaust pipe; if contaminated with fuel or oil, it must be replaced before starting the generator to reduce fire risk. Before performing any maintenance, ensure the battery negative terminal is disconnected and the emergency stop button is in the normal position.
